Canine Massage

Canine Massage Therapy is the therapeutic application of hands-on massage techniques for the purpose of increasing circulation, relaxing muscle spasms, relieving tension, enhancing muscle tone, and increasing range of motion in all dogs. It is natural, non-invasive, and a great complement to traditional veterinary care and other alternative therapies. Dogs of all ages, breeds, or activity levels can benefit from massage. It can help relieve age related issues like arthritis in senior dogs, rehabilitate injuries, calm anxious pets, enhance the performance of athletic dogs, and even support puppies with growing pains and desensitization to touch. Many of the benefits for dogs are similar to those found in human massage.

Some of the benefits of canine massage:

○ Promotes relaxation

○ Boosts immune function

○ Improves flexibility and range of motion

○ Promotes blood and lymph circulation

○ Alleviates muscle tension, soreness, & spasms

○ Decreases joint discomfort & stiffness

○ Improves performance (sport & working dogs)

○ Reduces stress and anxiety

○ Shortens recovery time from exercise, injury, or surgery

○ Improves socialization, builds trust, & strengthens human-animal bond

○ Provides positive desensitization to touch

○ Improves digestion

○ Reduces the risk of injury

○ Releases endorphins (the body’s natural pain killer)

Overall, canine massage offers a holistic approach to promoting your dog's health and well-being, addressing both physical and emotional needs to help them live happier, healthier lives.

Initial Consultation & Massage (approximately 60 minutes)

The Initial visit allows us time to get to know your pet, start building their trust, gather information about your dog's health history, activity, any current issues or concerns, and discuss goals for the session(s). We will observe your dog's posture, movement, and any areas of tension or discomfort, provide their first massage and create a plan that best fits your pup's needs.

Follow-up Massage (approximately 45 minutes)

During the follow up session we will do a brief check-in to assess any changes in your dog's health or behavior since the previous appointment and a massage.

The length of the session(s) depends on your dog’s size, age, temperament, comfort level with touch/massage, etc. It may take them a couple sessions to get used to massage or a few minutes to get settled at the beginning of a session. Some dogs may lie down for the entire session while others prefer to move around and take more breaks.

Canine Massage sessions are available in-office at Enabled Integrated Veterinary Services located at 2031 York Rd, Gettysburg, PA 17325 or in the comfort of your home (Please consult with your veterinarian to make sure massage is right for your pet).

Animal Reiki

Animal reiki is energy healing through meditation with animals. Animals are naturally aware of the energies that surround them which makes them more receptive to reiki. It puts them in a deep relaxed and peaceful space for self healing. Animal reiki is a great complement to pet training and traditional veterinary medicine. Any animal can benefit, big or small.

In-person sessions are provided at your home, barn, or yard and last approximately 30 minutes depending on the animal. Each animal gives their consent to receive reiki treatment and decides how much they would like, at what distance, and if they would like a hands on or hands off session.

  • Aids in calming pets with emotional issues, (like separation anxiety) newly adopted pets, shelter animals, & pets being boarded.

  • Comforts dying animals and eases their transition

  • Increases trust and bonding between humans & animals.

  • Enhances training.

  • Accelerates the body’s self-healing abilities.

  • Helps reduce pain & discomfort.
